Red fire ants are distributed in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Guangdong, Macao, Fujian, Guangxi and other southern regions of China, as well as Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, the United States and other places. Red fire ants often nest in farmland, nurseries, parks, green spaces, lawns, and other areas; When its habitat selection is limited, it can even build nests in urban dividers, under sidewalks, or in facilities such as electrical equipment. Red fire ant adults have a wide diet, killing insects, earthworms, frogs, lizards, birds, and small mammals, as well as collecting plant seeds. Red fire ants can be divided into single queen ant or multi queen ant colonies. Single queen ants can lay up to 800 eggs per day, while multi queen ants can lay 2000-3000 eggs per day. Red fire ants generally take 30-60 days for small worker ants, 60-90 days for medium-sized worker ants, and 90-180 days for large worker ants; The queen ant has a longer lifespan, about 2-6 years.

Red fire ants originated in Paran á River City, Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina. They were introduced to the southern United States in the 1930s and are currently the most dangerous ants in the world. Red fire ants have strong aggression, and children, the elderly, and individuals with allergies are the "high-risk groups" threatened by red fire ants. The invasion of red imported fire ants often brings serious ecological disasters and is a major enemy of biodiversity conservation and agricultural production; Invasion of homes, schools, lawns, and other places increases the chance of contact with people, and bites may occur from time to time. Red fire ants gnaw on electrical wires, often causing short circuits and even small fires.
